happy girls are the prettiest

I never post about beauty products or tips but I've recently become so attached to a few things that I really want to share them. They probably aren't new to some of you but their presence in my life has affected a lot of things about my appearance and I love them for it. Amen.

Disclaimer: I don't know anything about natural products and/or chemicals so if these things are bad for humans, the environment or baby animals . . . I'm sorry but I probably won't stop using them. Sort of kidding. Also, I don't have a lot of money to spend on beauty products so if they don't sell it at Target then I probably don't buy it (there are one or two exceptions that I use from Nordstrom). There may be better/more expensive alternatives out there but let's call this the "moderately economical beauty supply list".
1. Cetaphil - why did no one tell me about this when I was a teenager?! I never had really bad acne when I was a teen but I didn't know how to care for my skin. I have tried at least a dozen kinds of skin cleanser and creams for my dry skin, including expensive brands. I will probably never stop using this stuff . . . and it's so cheap (and you can buy it at Costco)!

2. Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo - I only wash my hair a couple of times a week (and I even have been working out a solid 6 days a week so it gets pretty gross). Dry shampoo is the greatest hair product invention ever and I had been using Suave's Dry Shampoo (only around $4). It was working fine but it never provided me with much volume and it leaves a slight white residue. I have lots of fine hair so volume is worth a lot to me. This stuff works really well! I love it! Some advice though if you try it: use sparingly and follow the directions. Spray it on and leave it for two minutes and then brush it out. Otherwise it feels sticky.

3. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara BIG - I always internally laughed at people when I saw them pull out this pink and green tube because it looked like "beginner" make-up. You know, what you buy when you're 12 . . . but it's the best mascara out there for the price (better than/just as good as the expensive Lancome, MAC and Nars kinds I've tried)! I like the BIG brush because it provides more volume.

4. Bed Head Hard Head Hairspray - I've tried a hundred kinds and this is the best for great hold. I have used other brands I like but this is the best for the price and it's conveniently sold at most drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc.
5. Kiehl's Moisturizing Lip Gloss - I don't usually wear anything on my lips other than some chapstick since I have naturally rosy lips. David picked this out for me for my birthday and I love it! I was so surprised when I opened it and even more surprised when he picked the perfect peachy pink color (Downtown Peach). It's super soft and hydrating and looks lovely and natural on.

What are your must-have beauty products?

  4. I too am a HUGE fan of Cetaphil cleanser and Great Lash (although I wish they made a true "brown", not black-brown, grumble grumble.)

I also love L'oreal Elnett hairspray (can be had at any drugstore!) and Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. It's great all the time, but it's extra totally fabulous in cold weather. It saved my bacon in London last year!

And I don't even know if you can get Burt's Bees lemon cuticle butter anymore, but if you can, you SHOULD. Amazing.

  5. I have always and ever will use maybelline mascara. It's the best! I used to use cetaphil in high school and totally forgot about it. I should try using it again. Although I do like using my neutrogena face soap.

I love it when you comment on my blog - but please remember "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all".
